earning it and let`s not talk about child care costs at all.
Sound like anyone you know? Let's see where do I start.
Oh yea, from the beginning right. Well like everyone else I
started out with big dreams, Graduate with honors, find the
perfect job, hook up with Mr Right (who would also have the
perfect job), make lots of money, go on expensive glorious
holidays and live happily ever after. Looked really good
in a diary.
Then wouldn`t you know it reality hit me with a
dirty diaper. Don't take that wrong, I love my son but they
certainly do have a way of changing your plans. No one wants
you to take a crying baby to nice restaurants, swanky beach resorts
or even the local cinema. And forget two incomes, but
the time you pay for day care and other job related expenses you end
up working Fast Food wages. Something had to give.
So what did I do? Well I was lucky.
I had a friend that was having some success working from home.
Wait dont run away, I'm not going to try to sell you Amway. In
fact I am not going to try to sell you anything. There are
plenty sites out there that will do that. I just want to point
out a few facts, give you some advise and tell you what has and
hasn`t worked for me.
It turns out my friend was right, it is possible
to work from home. The secret is this ---- The word `WORK`
still applies. When you work from home you still have to work.
You need to set aside a certain amount of time to get it done.
You need to set aside a certain budget for the tools and materials
you need to be successful. No one would consider trying to
open a hair salon without chairs and clippers, yet somehow people
still want to believe you can make a million dollars from home in a
week with no up front costs.
Dont expect any one thing you see to replace
your old salary. I run several web sites and participate in a
half dozen other internet enterprises. And dont expect the
money to just suddenly start rolling in at the end of the first
week. It takes time and it usually sneaks up on you instead of
jumping out at you.
Take the time to evaluate the various programs
available. Find things that interest you. Look for
things you would like to be involved in even if there was no money
involved. I have always liked playing the lottery so one of my
sites is lotto based. It's work yes, but it also has an
element of fun. Look for things you can start out small and
slow. Programs that dont require huge up front payments.
Yes you have to expect to pay for good programs.
No one will give you anything that really makes
money for FREE. Think about it for a moment, if it
really make $1,000 a week with absolutely no effort and they were
even going to provide a free web site, why in the world would they
need you? Think about that for a moment then consider any good
program that is really going to work needs two things from you,
a little start up capital and elbow grease.

improving myself and my outlook gives me the boost I need to take care

to late to start feeling better. And the earlier you start the

Back in the days when I was a Good Mommy, I
tried to do everything right. I breast-fed and
co-slept, and responded to each and every cry with
anxious alacrity. I awoke with my daughter at 6:30
a.m. and, eschewing TV, curled up on the couch
with a stack of books that I could recite in my
sleep. I did this, in fact, many times, jerking
myself back awake as the clock rounded 6:45 and
the words of Curious George started to merge with
my dreams.
Was I crazy? No--I was a committed mother,
eager to do right by my child and well versed in
the child-care teachings of the day. I was proud
of the fact that I could get in three hours of
high-intensity parenting before I left for work;
prouder still that, when I came home in the
evening, I could count on at least three more. It
didn't matter that, in my day job as a stringer
for this magazine, I was often falling asleep at
my desk. Nor that I'd lost the ability to write a
coherent sentence. My brain might have been fried,
but my baby's was thriving.
